How the S-703 Works
The S-703 uses the same proven three-stage mechanism as our full-size lever grease guns, sized for 8 oz. bulk capacity:
- Load: Unscrew the demountable bottom cap or barrel, dip the barrel into an open grease pail to bulk-load up to 200 cc (8 oz.), or use a filler pump. The S-703 accepts bulk grease only, not cartridges.
- Prime: Pump the lever 3-5 times to draw grease into the pumping chamber. If grease does not flow, open the bleeder or loosen the head slightly and continue pumping until air escapes and grease flows steadily.
- Dispense: Each lever stroke delivers approximately 0.55 grams of grease (1 oz. per 40 strokes). Connect the 4 inch rigid steel extension or 10 inch flexible hose to the zerk fitting and pump until fresh grease appears at the bearing seal.
The 8 oz. capacity covers 15-20 typical chassis fittings per load, making this a practical choice for auto repair shops, small farms, and fleet maintenance operations where frequent refills waste time.

Buying Guide: When to Choose the S-703
Choosing the right mini grease gun depends on capacity needs, pressure requirements and workload. Here is how the S-703 compares to alternatives:
S-703 vs S-701 (Smaller Mini)
The S-703 holds twice as much grease as the S-701 (8 oz. vs 4 oz.) but generates half the pressure (3,000 PSI vs 6,000 PSI). Choose the S-703 when you have many fittings to service per load and standard-duty pressure is enough (typical automotive chassis work). Choose the S-701 when you need maximum tight-space access and higher pressure for crusted or small fittings. The S-703's wider 50.80 mm barrel makes bulk loading faster than the narrow S-701 barrel.
S-703 vs S-703S (Heavy-Duty Upgrade)
The S-703S is the heavy-duty upgrade: same 8 oz. capacity, same 50.80 mm barrel, but 6,000 PSI (double the pressure) and a steel head instead of aluminium. Choose the S-703 for general-purpose work at a better price point. Choose the S-703S when you need higher pressure for heavy equipment fittings, sealed bearings, or daily professional use where the steel head's durability pays off. Both accept the same kit configurations (R/F/RF) and accessories.
S-703 vs S-703E (Slim Barrel)
The S-703E is the slim-barrel, high-pressure variant: same 8 oz. capacity as the S-703 but with a narrower 44.45 mm barrel and 6,000 PSI pressure (double the S-703's 3,000 PSI). Choose the standard S-703 when you want easier bulk loading (wider barrel dips into grease pails faster) and standard-duty pressure is enough. Choose the S-703E when you need the S-703's 8 oz. capacity but also need 6,000 PSI pressure for sealed bearings or resistant fittings, or when a narrower barrel helps reach tight spaces.
S-703 vs Full-Size S-707 (Industrial)
The S-707 is the full-size industrial gun: 14 oz. cartridge (plus 15 oz. bulk), 12,000 PSI, and a drop-resistant steel head with Quadra-Cut Precision Technology. Choose the S-707 for fleet maintenance, heavy equipment, construction, mining and industrial applications where capacity and pressure matter most. Choose the S-703 for lighter-duty work where portability and cost matter more than raw industrial capability.

Frequently Asked Questions: Mini Lever Action Grease Gun 8 oz
What is the difference between a mini grease gun and a standard grease gun?
A mini grease gun has smaller bulk capacity (4-8 oz.) and narrower barrel (31-51 mm) versus a standard grease gun (14 oz. / 57 mm barrel). The S-703 is an 8 oz. (200 cc) mini with 50.80 mm barrel, the largest mini capacity. It bridges the gap between tight-space mini work and full-size industrial greasing. Applications: pickup trucks, small tractors, RVs, boat trailers, lawn equipment, small fleet maintenance, and OEM toolkits bundled with rotavators and agricultural implements. 200 cc covers 15-20 fittings per load.
Is 3000 PSI enough for a grease gun?
Yes, 3,000 PSI is standard-duty pressure and is enough for most consumer and light commercial fittings. The S-703's 3,000 PSI (207 bar) pushes grease through automotive chassis joints, U-joints, tie rod ends, ball joints, suspension bushings, tractor pivots, trailer bearings and most agricultural implement fittings. Exceptions where 3,000 PSI falls short: severely crusted zerks, sealed bearings with stuck check valves, or heavy industrial fittings on construction equipment. For those, use a 6,000 PSI mini (S-703S, S-703E, S-702) or 12,000 PSI industrial gun (S-707).
What is the delivery rate of a mini grease gun vs standard?
The S-703 delivers 0.55 grams of grease per stroke, or 1 oz. (22 g) per 40 strokes. Full-size standard guns like the S-707 deliver 1 gram per stroke, or 1 oz. per 28 strokes. Mini guns deliver roughly half the volume per stroke because of smaller piston diameter. This makes mini guns slower but more precise: easier to dose small fittings correctly without over-pumping. For equipment with 50+ fittings per service, the faster full-size delivery rate matters; for small vehicles and light equipment, the mini's precision is more useful.
How do I bulk-load a grease gun using a filler pump?
To fill the S-703 from a filler pump (connected to a 15 kg or 18 kg grease pail): (1) connect the filler pump nozzle to the S-703's bulk filler nut or press it against the bottom cap opening, (2) retract the S-703 plunger rod fully while the filler pump pushes grease in, (3) watch the plunger rod extend as the 200 cc barrel fills, (4) stop when the plunger reaches full extension. Disconnect, cap any open port, and prime normally. Filler pumps are faster and cleaner than dip-loading and are the standard workshop method.
What is the correct way to release trapped air from a grease gun?
After loading the S-703: loosen the head 1/4 turn while pumping the lever slowly; trapped air will escape through the loosened threads and a small amount of grease will ooze out, confirming the air is cleared. Retighten the head and continue pumping until grease flows steadily from the coupler. If air persists after two bleed attempts, disassemble the barrel, manually pack grease against the follower plate to eliminate the air pocket, reassemble and re-prime. The S-703's wider 50.80 mm barrel is less prone to air lock than narrower mini guns.
Can I use a mini grease gun on a pickup truck or car?
Yes, the S-703 is well-suited for pickup truck and passenger car chassis greasing. Its 3,000 PSI pressure handles U-joints, tie rod ends, ball joints, drive shaft slip yokes and suspension bushings on typical pickups and cars. The 8 oz. capacity covers a complete chassis greasing session without reload. For diesel trucks, heavy commercial pickups or classic trucks with crusted or sealed fittings, the higher-pressure S-703S (6,000 PSI) or S-707 (12,000 PSI) performs better on resistant zerks.
Can I use a mini grease gun on a boat trailer or RV?
Yes, boat trailers and RVs are common S-703 applications. On boat trailers: Bearing Buddy style spindle caps, tongue jacks, winch gears, coupler latches. On RVs: slide-out mechanisms, landing gear, hitch components, trailer brakes, roof vent pivots. Always use marine-grade NLGI 2 grease for fittings exposed to water; wheel bearing fittings should be hand-packed first if they are not Bearing Buddy equipped. Do not exceed bearing seal pressure (typically 500 PSI) by pumping aggressively; stop when fresh grease appears or the lever feels hard.
Can I use a mini grease gun for trailer wheel bearings?
Yes, but only for touching up spindle-cap fittings (like Bearing Buddy designs) that are engineered for grease gun injection. For repacking exposed trailer wheel bearings, hand-packing with marine grease before reassembly is the correct method. When using the S-703 on Bearing Buddy caps, pump 1 stroke at a time until the spring-loaded piston moves forward slightly, then stop. Over-pumping blows the rear seal and contaminates brake shoes. For sealed trailer hubs with external zerk fittings, pump slowly until fresh grease appears at the seal.
Why is grease coming out of the vent hole instead of the fitting?
Grease exiting the vent hole (a small pressure-relief hole on some grease gun heads) instead of the fitting means the flow path to the coupler is blocked or the coupler is not properly seated on the zerk. Troubleshooting on the S-703: (1) reseat the coupler firmly onto the zerk fitting until it clicks; (2) if grease still bypasses through the vent, disconnect the coupler and pump to confirm grease flows from the outlet; if yes, the coupler or fitting is clogged; (3) if the coupler passes clean, the fitting ball check is stuck; (4) if grease does not flow from the outlet even with coupler removed, the head outlet or non-return valve is clogged.
Why does grease go past the piston in a mini grease gun?
Grease bypassing the piston (follower plate) means the piston seal is worn, damaged, or the barrel has a rough spot. Symptoms on the S-703: lever pumps with normal feel but no grease reaches the coupler; plunger rod extends but barrel remains full. Fix: (1) disassemble and inspect the follower plate o-ring or seal for wear, cuts, hardening; (2) replace the seal (spare parts available); (3) check the barrel interior for deep scratches or corrosion; smooth any rough spots or replace the barrel. This is uncommon on the S-703 thanks to the cold-drawn steel barrel construction, but can happen after years of heavy use.
What happens if I mix incompatible greases in the same gun?
Incompatible grease thickeners (lithium, calcium, aluminum complex, polyurea, clay) can react chemically when mixed, forming hard deposits that clog the S-703 and degrade lubrication performance. Symptoms of mixed incompatible grease: sudden lever stiffness, priming failures, grease separation (oil bleeding out), or reduced pressure at fittings. Once mixed, the gun must be fully disassembled, solvent-flushed, dried, re-seal-greased and reloaded with a single grease type. Keep separate labeled guns per grease type in professional workshops to avoid this problem entirely.
How do you flush old grease from a grease gun?
To flush the S-703: (1) pump out as much old grease as possible through the coupler onto waste material until the plunger is fully extended, (2) disassemble via the demountable bottom cap, (3) wipe the barrel interior and head with rags, (4) flush both parts with a solvent compatible with the old grease (mineral spirits for lithium, kerosene for calcium, naphtha for polyurea), (5) dry completely with compressed air or paper towels, (6) lightly re-grease the plunger seal and o-rings with fresh grease, (7) reassemble and load new grease. Full flush is required before switching thickener types.
How should I store the S-703 between uses?
Store the S-703 horizontally (laying flat) with the plunger rod disengaged (released, not locked back), in a clean dry area between 5°C and 35°C. Horizontal storage prevents oil bleed (grease oil separating from the thickener) over time; vertical nozzle-down storage worsens this. Disengaging the plunger releases follower spring tension and extends spring life over long storage. For storage over 3 months: wipe exterior, remove the coupler, cap the outlet, and consider emptying the gun if the grease is approaching its shelf-life end. Grease left in a hot environment (above 40°C) can harden and require flushing before reuse.
What is a grease gun injection injury and how dangerous is it?
A grease gun injection injury happens when high-pressure grease penetrates the skin through a small wound, typically a finger or palm, and injects into subcutaneous tissue. Even the S-703's 3,000 PSI (the lower pressure end of manual guns) can inject grease through skin from a loose coupler spray or a hose pinhole. The wound appears small but grease spreads along tendons and tissue planes, causing ischemia, chemical burn, infection and possibly amputation. It is a surgical emergency: the injected grease must be removed within hours. Always wear gloves and safety glasses; never test the coupler against skin or clothing; if injury occurs, go to an emergency room immediately and say it is a high-pressure grease injection injury.
