Why Choose STAR Caulking Guns?
Professional caulking guns (sealant guns) are essential for applying silicone, polyurethane, acrylic and hybrid sealants in construction, glazing, plumbing and manufacturing. The right caulking gun delivers a smooth, consistent bead with minimal hand fatigue, even during extended use on large projects.
Our range covers three main types: half-round caulking guns (S-SG-01-PRO) for standard 300 ml sealant cartridges, skeleton frame guns (S-SG-02-HD) for lightweight portability, and sausage guns (S-SG-03 series) for 400 ml foil sausage packs used in professional glazing and construction. The pneumatic S-SG-03/PN model uses compressed air for fatigue-free operation on high-volume production lines.

Frequently Asked Questions: Caulking Guns & Sealant Guns
What is a caulking gun?
A caulking gun (also called a sealant gun or silicone gun) is a hand tool used to dispense sealants, adhesives and caulk from cartridges or sausage packs. It uses a trigger-operated plunger to push the sealant out through a nozzle in a controlled bead. Caulking guns are essential in construction, plumbing, glazing, automotive and manufacturing for sealing joints, gaps and seams.
What is the difference between a cartridge gun and a sausage gun?
A cartridge caulking gun uses standard rigid 300 ml (10 oz) sealant cartridges, while a sausage gun uses flexible 300, 400 or 600 ml foil-wrapped sausage packs. Sausage packs produce less waste (no rigid cartridge to dispose of) and are preferred by professional glaziers and construction contractors. Our S-SG-01-PRO and S-SG-02-HD are cartridge guns, while the S-SG-03 series are sausage guns.
What is the difference between a half-round and skeleton caulking gun?
A half-round caulking gun (S-SG-01-PRO) has a solid half-barrel that cradles the cartridge, providing better support and preventing the cartridge from flexing under pressure. A skeleton gun (S-SG-02-HD) has an open frame design that is lighter and allows you to see the cartridge level. Half-round guns are more durable for heavy daily use, while skeleton guns are preferred for lighter work and overhead applications where weight matters.
What sealants can I use with a caulking gun?
STAR caulking guns are compatible with silicone, polyurethane (PU), acrylic, MS polymer, hybrid and butyl sealants. They also work with construction adhesives, fire-rated sealants and acoustic sealants. The key factor is the cartridge or sausage pack size: our cartridge guns accept standard 300 ml (10 oz) cartridges, and our sausage guns accept 300, 400 and 600 ml foil packs.
What is a pneumatic caulking gun?
A pneumatic (air operated) caulking gun uses compressed air instead of hand pressure to dispense sealant, eliminating hand fatigue during extended use. Our S-SG-03/PN pneumatic sausage gun connects to a standard air compressor and delivers consistent, controlled sealant flow. Ideal for production lines, factory assembly and high-volume glazing work where operators apply sealant for hours at a time.
What thrust ratio do I need?
Thrust ratio determines how much force the gun applies to the sealant cartridge relative to your hand squeeze. A higher ratio (18:1 or 26:1) means less hand effort, which is important for thick sealants like polyurethane. Standard ratios (10:1 to 13:1) work for thin sealants like silicone and acrylic. For professional daily use, choose a higher thrust ratio to reduce hand fatigue.
Why does my caulking gun drip after I release the trigger?
Dripping occurs when residual pressure in the cartridge continues to push sealant out after you stop squeezing. Professional caulking guns have an anti-drip mechanism (pressure release) that retracts the plunger slightly when you release the trigger. Our S-SG-01-PRO and S-SG-AL/HD models feature this mechanism. If your gun drips, check that the anti-drip function is engaged and that the cartridge nozzle is not cut too large.
How do I load a sausage caulking gun?
Remove the front cap of the sausage gun, insert the foil sausage pack into the barrel, cut the end of the sausage pack, replace the front cap with the nozzle, and pump the trigger until sealant flows. Unlike cartridge guns, sausage guns require you to cut the sausage pack open inside the barrel. Make sure the pack is fully seated before replacing the cap to avoid air pockets.
Can I use a caulking gun for adhesives?
Yes. Caulking guns work with construction adhesives, grab adhesives, epoxy adhesives and any product sold in standard 300 ml cartridges or 400 ml sausage packs. For two-component adhesives (epoxy), you need a dual-cartridge dispensing gun, which is a different product. Our standard caulking guns are designed for single-component products.
Do you offer OEM caulking gun manufacturing?
Yes. We provide full OEM and private label manufacturing with custom branding, specifications and packaging for all 5 caulking gun models. We supply distributors and industrial buyers in over 27 countries. Visit our OEM partnership page for details on bulk orders and export supply.
