Why Choose Lift Action Chemical Pumps?
Standard metal pumps corrode and fail when exposed to solvents, acids and aggressive chemicals. Our lift action pumps are built entirely from chemical-resistant materials: nylon body, stainless steel plunger rod and PTFE (Teflon) seal. This combination handles lacquer, thinners, acetone, antifreeze, brake cleaner, detergents, glycerine, water, weed killer, mild acids, urea, DEF and petroleum-based media without degradation.
The self-priming vertical lift design means no manual priming is needed. Insert the pump into the drum, attach the 2" polypropylene bung adaptor, and start pumping. The nylon suction tube reaches the bottom of the drum for complete extraction. For standard oil transfer from drums, see our barrel pumps (cast iron, stainless steel and plastic rotary models).

Complete Range of Chemical Transfer Equipment
Our lift action pumps handle aggressive chemicals that standard barrel pumps cannot. For standard oil and lubricant transfer, our cast iron and stainless steel barrel pumps are the better choice. For grease dispensing, see our grease bucket pumps. For precision oiling, see our oil cans.

Frequently Asked Questions: Lift Action Chemical Pumps
What is a lift action pump?
A lift action pump (also called a vertical action pump) is a self-priming manual pump designed to transfer chemicals from drums and containers using a vertical pumping motion. Unlike rotary barrel pumps that use a crank, lift action pumps use an up-and-down stroke. Our S-CLP and S-CLP/XL models are built with nylon body, stainless steel plunger rod and PTFE seal for chemical resistance.
What chemicals can I transfer with a lift action pump?
Our lift action pumps are compatible with lacquer, thinners, acetone, antifreeze, brake cleaner, detergents, glycerine, water, weed killer, mild acids, urea, DEF (diesel exhaust fluid) and petroleum-based media. The nylon, stainless steel and PTFE construction resists degradation from these chemicals. For strong concentrated acids (sulfuric, hydrochloric), check specific PTFE and nylon compatibility charts before use.
What is the difference between the S-CLP and S-CLP/XL?
The S-CLP is designed for 25-litre drums and delivers 190 ml (6.3 oz) per stroke. The S-CLP/XL is designed for 205-litre (55 gallon) drums and delivers 400 ml (14 oz) per stroke. Both use the same nylon/stainless steel/PTFE construction and 2" polypropylene bung adaptor. Choose based on your drum size.
What does "self-priming" mean?
A self-priming pump can draw fluid without needing to be manually filled or primed before use. You simply insert the pump into the drum and start pumping. The first few strokes create suction that draws the fluid up through the nylon suction tube. This eliminates the need to pour fluid into the pump to get it started, which is especially important when handling hazardous chemicals.
Can I use a lift action pump for oil?
Yes, our lift action pumps handle petroleum-based media including oils. However, for standard oil transfer from drums, our rotary barrel pumps (cast iron or stainless steel) are more efficient because they provide continuous flow with a crank mechanism. Lift action pumps are the better choice when you need chemical resistance that metal barrel pumps cannot provide.
What is a bung adaptor?
A bung adaptor is a threaded fitting that screws into the opening (bung hole) of a drum, allowing the pump to be securely mounted. Our lift action pumps include a 2" threaded polypropylene bung adaptor that fits standard drum openings. The polypropylene material is chemical-resistant and provides a tight seal to prevent leaks and vapour escape during pumping.
Why is PTFE used in chemical pumps?
PTFE (polytetrafluoroethylene, commonly known as Teflon) has extreme corrosion resistance to virtually all chemicals including strong acids, bases, solvents and oxidizers. In our lift action pumps, the PTFE seal prevents chemical attack on the sealing surfaces, ensuring leak-free operation over thousands of pump cycles. PTFE also has a very low coefficient of friction, making the pumping action smooth and effortless.
What is DEF and why do I need a chemical pump for it?
DEF (Diesel Exhaust Fluid) is a urea-based solution used in modern diesel vehicles to reduce emissions. DEF is corrosive to many metals including copper, brass and mild steel. Standard metal barrel pumps will corrode when used with DEF. Our nylon lift action pumps with stainless steel and PTFE components are DEF-compatible, making them the correct choice for transferring DEF from drums to vehicle tanks.
How do I maintain a lift action pump?
After each use, flush the pump with clean water or a compatible solvent to remove chemical residue from the suction tube, plunger and seal. Inspect the PTFE seal periodically for wear or chemical attack. Check the nylon suction tube for cracks. Store the pump dry with the bung adaptor capped. If the pump loses suction, the PTFE seal likely needs replacement. Never leave the pump submerged in chemicals during extended storage.
Do you offer OEM chemical pump manufacturing?
