Why Choose the Right Grease Coupler?
A mismatched grease coupler causes 60% of lubrication failures. The wrong coupler leaks grease, pops off under pressure, damages zerk fittings and wastes time. Our standard hydraulic couplers (HC-01, HC-02) handle everyday greasing at 6,000 PSI, while the HC-03 Heavy Duty delivers 10,000 PSI with 3-jaw or 4-jaw grip. For high-pressure applications, the QRC-01 quick release coupler (locking grease coupler) delivers 12,000 PSI with a one-hand release mechanism that prevents coupler damage.
For hard-to-reach fittings, the HC-05 right angle coupler (90 degree grease coupler) provides 90° discharge at 1,000 PSI. For button head fittings on heavy machinery, the S-BHC series (thrust on, hook on, swivel) connects securely at 3,000 PSI. For flush-mounted fittings, the S-C9 flush type connector reaches recessed grease points. Every coupler fits standard grease nipples and works with our lever action and pistol grip grease guns.

Frequently Asked Questions: Grease Couplers & Connectors
What is a grease coupler?
A grease coupler (also called a grease gun coupler or grease fitting coupler) is the connector on the end of a grease gun hose or extension that attaches to a grease nipple (zerk fitting) on machinery. It creates a sealed connection so grease flows into the bearing or joint under pressure without leaking. Our range includes standard hydraulic (HC series), quick release (QRC series), right angle, pin type, button head and specialty connectors.
What is a quick release coupler?
A quick release coupler (QRC series) has a one-hand release mechanism that disconnects from the grease nipple without pulling or twisting. Traditional couplers can be difficult to remove under pressure, leading to damaged jaws and fittings. Our QRC-01 is rated at 12,000 PSI (the highest in our range) and the QRC-02 adds a double handle for even easier operation. Quick release couplers are recommended for high-pressure greasing and hard-to-reach fittings.
What is a right angle coupler used for?
The HC-05 right angle coupler provides 90° discharge for grease fittings that cannot be accessed head-on. Rated at 1,000 PSI, it is designed for fittings in tight spaces, behind panels or at awkward angles where a straight coupler cannot reach. The hardened slot reduces wear and the polyurethane seal ensures a secure fit on the grease nipple.
What are button head couplers?
Button head couplers (S-BHC series) are designed for button head grease fittings commonly found on heavy machinery, agricultural equipment and construction equipment. We offer three types: S-BHC-01 thrust on (push straight on), S-BHC-02 hook on (hook and slide), and S-BHC-03 swivel (rotates for angled access). All rated at 3,000 PSI with zinc die cast construction.
What is a seal off dispenser?
The S-SOD seal off dispenser is a specialty tool with an oil and grease-resistant rubber tip for lubricating cars with grease plugs instead of standard zerk fittings. The rubber tip creates a seal against the plug opening, allowing grease to be injected without a standard coupler connection. Available in zinc plated and chrome plated finish.
How do I choose the right coupler for my application?
Match the coupler type to your fitting type and pressure requirements. Standard zerk fittings: HC-01 to HC-04 (6,000 PSI). High-pressure applications: QRC-01 (12,000 PSI). Hard-to-reach fittings: HC-05 right angle (1,000 PSI). Button head fittings: S-BHC series (3,000 PSI). Flush-mounted fittings: S-C9 flush type. Grease plugs: S-SOD seal off dispenser. When in doubt, the HC-02 Professional with 4-jaw grip is the most versatile choice.
How do I adjust a grease coupler that is too tight or too loose?
Most hydraulic couplers have an adjustable collar or nut behind the jaws that controls jaw tension. Turn it clockwise to tighten (jaws grip harder, harder to push on) or counterclockwise to loosen (easier to push on, but may pop off under pressure). If the coupler still leaks after tightening, the jaws or internal spring are worn and the coupler needs replacement. Never over-tighten as this can damage the zerk fitting.
What is the difference between 3-jaw and 4-jaw couplers?
A 3-jaw coupler has three spring-loaded jaws that grip the grease nipple, while a 4-jaw coupler has four jaws for a more secure grip. 4-jaw couplers provide better centering and are less likely to pop off under pressure. Our HC-01 (Standard, 6,000 PSI), HC-02 (Professional, 6,000 PSI) and HC-03 (Heavy Duty, 10,000 PSI) are available in both 3-jaw and 4-jaw configurations. The HC-04 (Machined Jaw, 6,000 PSI) uses a precision machined jaw design. For high-pressure applications, 4-jaw is recommended.
What thread sizes do your couplers come in?
All our couplers and connectors are available in 1/8" BSPT, 1/8" NPT and M10x1 threads. BSPT is standard in the UK, Australia and Asia. NPT is standard in North America. M10x1 metric is used in European and some Asian equipment. These three thread sizes cover virtually all grease gun and fitting combinations worldwide.
What is the difference between a locking coupler and a standard coupler?
A standard coupler uses spring-loaded jaws that grip the zerk fitting by friction alone. A locking coupler adds a mechanical latch (lever or threaded collar) that physically locks onto the fitting. Standard couplers are cheaper and work fine for low-pressure, accessible fittings. Locking couplers (like our QRC series at 12,000 PSI) are worth the investment for high-pressure work, hard-to-reach fittings, or any situation where a pop-off wastes time and grease. Forum users consistently report that switching to a locking coupler eliminates their biggest greasing frustration.
Why does my grease coupler keep popping off?
The most common causes are excess pressure buildup, worn coupler jaws, a clogged or damaged zerk fitting, or using a 3-jaw coupler where a 4-jaw is needed. First check the zerk fitting. If the ball check is stuck, pressure builds up and pushes the coupler off. Clean or replace the fitting. If the coupler jaws are worn, replace the coupler. For a permanent solution, switch to a QRC-01 quick release coupler which locks onto the fitting.
My coupler is too big for recessed fittings. What should I use?
For grease fittings recessed inside pins, holes or tight spaces, use our pointed connectors (S-C1, S-C2) or the HC-06 pin type coupler. Standard hydraulic couplers have a body diameter of approximately 17 to 19 mm which won't fit into narrow recesses. Pointed connectors have a slim profile that reaches into tight spots. For flush-mounted fittings that sit level with the surface, use the S-C9 flush type connector.
How do I rebuild or replace worn coupler jaws?
If your coupler jaws are worn, chipped or no longer grip the zerk fitting securely, it is usually more cost-effective to replace the entire coupler rather than rebuild it. Our HC series couplers are precision-machined and competitively priced for replacement. For quick release couplers (QRC series), the jaw mechanism is more complex and replacement is recommended over repair. Always inspect the zerk fitting too, as a damaged fitting will wear out even a new coupler quickly.
Are your couplers compatible with other grease gun brands?
Yes. All our couplers use standard 1/8" BSPT, 1/8" NPT and M10x1 threads for universal compatibility. The jaw design fits standard grease nipples regardless of equipment brand. Our couplers work with lever action and pistol grip grease guns from STAR and any equipment using standard threading.
