Why Choose Polypropylene Measuring Jugs?

Polypropylene (PP) is the preferred material for professional measuring jugs because it combines optical clarity with chemical resistance, heat tolerance and durability that glass cannot match. Unlike glass jugs that shatter when dropped, polypropylene jugs survive daily workshop handling without cracking or chipping. Unlike cheap plastic jugs that warp in heat or cloud over time, our heavy-duty PP maintains its clarity and dimensional accuracy through years of use.

The autoclavable property (121°C / 250°F) makes our jugs suitable for laboratory sterilization cycles. Microwave compatibility means liquids can be warmed directly in the jug without transferring to another container. The food-grade polymer is safe for food processing applications where measuring ingredients is required. For automotive workshops, the chemical resistance handles oils, coolants, brake fluid, transmission fluid and solvents without degradation.

Frequently Asked Questions: Plastic Measuring Jugs

What is a polypropylene measuring jug?

A polypropylene measuring jug is a clear, transparent container with graduated volume markings used to measure and pour precise amounts of liquid. Our STAR measuring jugs are manufactured from heavy-duty polypropylene (PP) with dual markings in litres and ounces, an ergonomic handle with thumb grip, and a pouring spout. They are used in automotive workshops, laboratories, industrial plants, food processing and agricultural operations.

What sizes of measuring jugs do you offer?

We offer 8 sizes: 100 ml (JUG-100), 250 ml (JUG-250), 500 ml (JUG-500), 600 ml (JUG-600), 1,000 ml (JUG-1000), 2,000 ml (JUG-2000), 3,000 ml (JUG-3000) and 5,000 ml (JUG-5000). The 1,000 ml and 5,000 ml sizes are the most popular for automotive workshops. The 100 ml and 250 ml sizes are commonly used in laboratories and for precise chemical mixing.

What is the difference between a measuring jug and a measuring cup?

Measuring jugs are larger (typically 500 ml to 5,000 ml), have a handle and pouring spout, and are designed for workshop, laboratory and industrial use. Measuring cups are smaller (typically under 500 ml) and are more common in kitchen and household applications. Our polypropylene jugs are professional-grade tools built for repeated daily use with chemicals, oils and industrial fluids.

Are your measuring jugs autoclavable?

Yes. Our polypropylene measuring jugs can be autoclaved at 121°C (250°F) without deformation or loss of clarity. This makes them suitable for laboratory sterilization cycles where equipment must be decontaminated between uses. Polypropylene is one of the few plastics that can withstand autoclave temperatures repeatedly without degrading.

Are the measuring jugs microwave safe?

Yes. Our polypropylene jugs can be safely used in a microwave without deformation. Polypropylene has a high melting point (approximately 160°C / 320°F) and does not leach chemicals when heated, unlike some other plastics. This allows you to warm liquids directly in the jug without transferring to another container.

Are these jugs food-grade safe?

Yes. The polypropylene polymer used in our measuring jugs is food-grade and safe for contact with food and beverages. This makes them suitable for food processing, brewing, catering and any application where measuring food-safe liquids is required. However, jugs that have been used for chemicals, oils or industrial fluids should not be reused for food applications.

What chemicals are compatible with polypropylene jugs?

Polypropylene is resistant to most chemicals including acids, bases, alcohols, oils, fuels, coolants, brake fluid and common workshop solvents. It is not recommended for use with strong oxidizing agents, chlorinated solvents or aromatic hydrocarbons at elevated temperatures. For specific chemical compatibility, check a polypropylene resistance chart or contact us with the chemical name.

What is the difference between polypropylene and glass measuring jugs?

Polypropylene jugs are shatterproof, lightweight, chemical-resistant, autoclavable and microwave safe. Glass jugs offer slightly better optical clarity and scratch resistance but shatter when dropped, are heavier, and cannot be microwaved (unless borosilicate). For workshop and industrial environments where jugs are handled frequently and may be dropped, polypropylene is the safer and more practical choice. Glass is preferred only in precision laboratory settings where absolute optical clarity is critical.

How do I read the graduated markings accurately?

Place the jug on a flat, level surface and read the liquid level at eye height, at the bottom of the meniscus (the slight curve where the liquid meets the jug wall). Our jugs feature bold graduated markings in both litres and ounces with exceptional optical clarity, making them easy to read even in dimly lit workshop environments. For the most accurate reading, ensure the jug is stationary and the liquid has settled.

How do I clean a polypropylene measuring jug?

Rinse with warm soapy water or a mild degreasing solution, then air dry. For stubborn residue from oils or chemicals, soak in warm water with a degreaser for 15 to 30 minutes. Polypropylene does not absorb odours or stains, so a thorough rinse is usually sufficient. The jugs are also dishwasher safe. For laboratory use, autoclaving at 121°C provides full sterilization.

Do you offer OEM measuring jug manufacturing?

Yes. We manufacture polypropylene measuring jugs in bulk for distributors and OEM partners in over 27 countries. Custom capacities, graduated markings (litres, ounces, millilitres or dual-scale), colours, branding and packaging are available.
