A bung nut is a threaded cap that secures the barrel pump into the bung hole (opening) of a drum or barrel. It creates a tight, leak-free seal that prevents fluid from escaping around the pump during operation. What sizes do the outlet pipe spouts come in?

What bung size do rotary barrel pumps fit?
Standard rotary barrel pumps fit 2" (50 mm) bung openings, which is the universal standard for 15 to 55 gallon (57 to 210 litre) drums and barrels worldwide. What is the difference between cast iron, stainless steel and plastic barrel pumps?
Cast iron pumps are the most durable and best for petroleum products and heavy oils. Stainless steel pumps handle a wider range of fluids including some mild chemicals and food-grade liquids. Plastic (polypropylene) pumps are designed specifically for corrosive chemicals, acids and solvents that would damage metal pumps. We manufacture all three types. The accessories on this page (handles, bung nuts, spouts, hoses) are primarily for cast iron and stainless steel models.
Are these accessories compatible with non-STAR barrel pumps?
Our accessories use standard threading and dimensions that are compatible with most rotary barrel pumps on the market. The handles, bung nuts and spouts fit standard barrel pump configurations. What fluids can a rotary barrel pump handle?
Cast iron rotary barrel pumps are designed for non-corrosive, petroleum-based fluids: motor oil, transmission fluid, diesel, kerosene, heating oil and machine oil. They should NOT be used for water, acids, solvents, antifreeze, detergents or corrosive chemicals. For chemical transfer, use a plastic rotary barrel pump (like our S-410 for oils or S-411 for chemicals) which uses polypropylene and Ryton vanes for chemical resistance.
When should I replace my barrel pump handle?
Replace the handle if it shows signs of bending, cracking or excessive play at the connection point. A worn handle reduces pumping efficiency because energy is lost to flex instead of being transferred to the pump mechanism. Our cast iron handles are designed for heavy daily use and resist bending under high-torque rotary pumping.
What types of suction tubes are available for barrel pumps?
We manufacture three types of suction tubes: single piece rigid steel pipes (1 metre length), telescopic steel tubes (615 to 1012 mm adjustable) and two/three piece tubes (445 to 1000 mm). Single piece tubes are the most durable for permanent installations. Telescopic tubes adjust to fit different barrel depths. Two/three piece tubes are available in both steel and PVC, with PVC being lightweight and chemically resistant. Available in 3/4" BSPT, 1" BSPT and UNF threading.
